UNC Health Chatham DAISY Award
Do you know an extraordinary nurse? Have you spotted a nurse showing great compassion and respect for his or her patients? At UNC Health Chatham, we welcome patients, families and colleagues to nominate any of our nurses or nursing students who have gone beyond expectations for an honor called a DAISY Award.
Established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, a 33-year-old man who received compassionate care from his nurses before losing a battle with an autoimmune disease in 1999, the DAISY Award program recognizes the exceptional work of nurses everywhere. DAISY is an acronym for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.”
At UNC Health Chatham, anyone who experiences or observes a nurse demonstrating extraordinary, compassionate care can submit a nomination for a DAISY Award. A committee of fellow nurses determines who gets the honor, which is given before the chosen nurse’s colleagues and patients.
