CHAPEL HILL — UNC Health has acquired a 43-acre site within Chatham Park, the large-scale development project in Pittsboro. The acquisition signifies a substantial expansion of UNC Health's services in Chatham County, where it already operates several facilities.
This new site, positioned south of US 64 Bypass and along Chatham Park Way, offers the potential for up to 700,000 square feet of medical care facilities. The move will change the healthcare landscape in one of North Carolina’s fastest-growing counties.
The parcel will serve as an extension of UNC Health's existing medical services in the area, complementing the Chatham Hospital in Siler City and other UNC Health entities within Chatham Park. The planned development is expected to further consolidate UNC Health’s offerings, providing a more comprehensive range of healthcare services to local residents.
“We’ve built a substantial presence at Chatham Park and are delighted to be a part of the growing Chatham Park community as we take this opportunity to expand much-needed medical care for that region," said Janet Hadar, President of UNC Hospitals. "This acquisition reaffirms our commitment to providing high-quality, accessible care to the residents of Chatham County and beyond.”
In addition to Chatham Hospital, UNC Health operates several other facilities in the county, such as UNC Family Medicine at Pittsboro and UNC Specialty Care at Chatham Park, offering a range of outpatient services. The new development is set to broaden this spectrum, potentially introducing specialized medical services and advanced care options.
“We believe that our presence within Chatham Park not only elevates the standard of healthcare in the region, but also contributes positively to the overall wellness and vitality of the community,” said Chatham Hospital President Jeff Strickle in a press release.
Currently, over 1,000 residents call Chatham Park home, with plans to add more residential areas, including the Encore by David Weekley neighborhood, and the anticipated Del Webb at Chatham Park. The introduction of UNC Health's new facilities is expected to meet the increasing demand for healthcare services triggered by the community's growth.
“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with UNC Health,” said Julian “Bubba” Rawl, of Preston Development, developers of Chatham Park. "This partnership reflects our shared vision of creating a vibrant, inclusive community that prioritizes the well-being of its residents. UNC Health’s expanded presence will undoubtedly enhance the quality of life for everyone who calls Chatham Park home as well as the many people who are moving to our area."
