Chatham Hospital Names New President

Robert A. Enders, Jr. has been appointed President of Chatham Hospital by its Board of Trustees. Enders, 56, will take over leadership of the hospital on March 19th.

Enders’ interest and past experience has been with small, rural hospitals in the southeast. Prior to coming to Chatham Hospital, Enders was the Administrator at Pioneer Community Hospital of Patrick County, a critical access hospital located in Stuart, Virginia, for two years. The balance of his career was spent at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, North Carolina, where he was a Vice-President from 1983 – 1987 and President from 1987 – 2008.

A native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Enders attended the University of Virginia as a undergraduate and obtained his graduate degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.

Mr. Enders brings his experience with smaller, rural hospitals to Chatham to assist with the hospital’s growth and success.

“I am really excited about the position.” Enders said. “Chatham is a great rural critical access hospital with great potential.” “I hope to leverage our relationship with the UNC Health Care System to bring more specialists and services to Chatham County. We really need to grow.” Other priorities for Enders and Chatham Hospital including improving patient satisfaction and financial performance at the hospital.

“Starting out, I want to get to know the community and the community leaders,” Enders said. “I will then work with hospital managers to determine our strengths and weaknesses. Together we will develop a strategic plan to identify and address other important issues for the hospital.”

Enders plans to reside in Chatham County with his wife, Bonnie. Together they have three daughters, two attending college in North Carolina and one in Veterinary School in Tennessee.

“Bonnie and I are excited to be here and look forward to becoming an active part of the community,” Enders said.
